December 7, 2006 Tweeten Selected 2006 Communicator of the Year Kathleen Tweeten is the 2006 Communicator of the Year, as selected by the North Dakota State University Agriculture Communication Department and members of the North Dakota Association for Communication Excellence. Tweeten is the director of the NDSU Extension Service’s Center for Community Vitality and an Extension specialist in community economic development in the NDSU Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics. She was the first president of the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals, past president of Business Retention and Expansion International and certified instructor for the Business Retention and Expansion certification program. Her special areas of interest include business retention and expansion, community action planning, the creation of rural business opportunities, student community service-based learning, e-commerce, entrepreneurship and leadership development. Tweeten works with NDSU faculty and others to coordinate research, teaching and outreach to assist individuals and community leaders interested in community vitality. She received her B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from the University of North Dakota. The Communicator of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has displayed exceptional expertise and professionalism in delivering educational programs and information to the public. Selection criteria include media/materials preparation and delivery, preferably using several types of media. A luncheon in Tweeten’s honor will be at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Research 1 on the NDSU campus. Rick Killion, Prairie Business Magazine editor, will speak about the value of communication.
