December 14, 2006 Irrigation Workshop Set for Jan. 3 A one-day irrigation workshop will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at the Northern Plains Agricultural Research Laboratory in Sidney, Mont. The North Dakota State University and Montana State University Extension Services, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service are sponsoring the event. “One of the biggest question marks in irrigation is how to achieve consistency in crop yields and quality,” says Chet Hill, NDSU Extension area agricultural diversification specialist. “This workshop emphasizes specific water management techniques and specific crops.” Specialists from NDSU, Montana State and the USDA will share their knowledge with workshop participants. Topics they’ll cover are strip tillage management, water quality concerns, economics of switching to sprinkler irrigation, irrigated corn and forage production, converting flood irrigation to sprinklers, nutrient management and soybean production. The workshop starts at 8:30 a.m. Mountain time. The cost is 10 per person. For more information, contact Hill at (701) 774-4315 or Ben Larson, a Montana State Extension agent, at (406) 433-1206. ### Source: Chet
