Submitted by: agcomm, Thu Nov 13 11:02:19 1997 November 13, 1997 Income Tax Management Program Scheduled for Ag Producers A "Tax Management for Ag Producers" program will be offered to tax preparers and agricultural producers on Dec. 3, Wednesday, from 1 to 4 p.m. (Central Standard Time) at 10 interactive video sites in North Dakota. The program, sponsored by the North Dakota State University Extension Service and the Internal Revenue Service, will focus on recent changes in tax legislation, and will feature presentations by Steve Eckroth of Eide Helmeke, Bismarck; Gay Blazek, IRS agent, Bismarck; Bob Peterka, Farm Accounting and Tax Services, Fargo, N.D.; and Steve Troyer, Farm Credit Services, Fargo. Topics include capital gains tax, alternative minimum tax for farmers, weather-forced livestock sales, tax breaks for education, the Roth IRA, and estate planning. Self-employment tax implications of renting farmland and the IRS position on reasonable compensation to employees will be clarified. Income averaging for farmers--available for the 1998 tax year-- will be explained. Four question-and-answer periods are scheduled during the three-hour program. Preregistration is recommended, as seating is limited at each interactive video site. The cost of the program and materials is $8 for the first person from an operation, $4 for the second, with one set of materials provided.
