Submitted by: agcomm, Thu Nov 13 11:02:19 1997 November 13, 1997 Crop and Livestock Review Scheduled at Carrington The NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center will host a crop and livestock review meeting Thursday morning, Dec. 11, to highlight current production agriculture challenges and the research being conducted at the Carrington Center to address these problems. The meeting, which is free and open to the public, starts at 9:30 a.m. with a session on economic trends and challenges for agriculture. Beginning at 10 a.m., 20-minute concurrent sessions on crops and animal science will be conducted on a variety of topics, including attributes of crop rotations, crop performance and economics of alternative vs. traditional crops, fertilizing or inoculating grain legumes, managing wheat disease, precision harvest of canola, and management of Canada thistle and common milkweed. Animal science topics include alternative winter beef cow diets, crambe meal for cows, cattle feeding in North Dakota, balancing bison budgets and researching commercial bison production. Speakers will be Center faculty Vern Anderson, Greg Endres, Jim Harbour, Karl Hoppe, Steve Metzger, Brad Miller, Blaine Schatz and Steve Zwinger.
