WEED CONTROL Herbicide Residue Ally (metsulfuron) at 0.1 oz 75DF/A may carry over in soil for more than three crop years. The most important factor affecting Ally carryover is soil pH. The rate of Ally breakdown increases as soil pH decreases. Ally should not be applied to soils with a pH above 7.9. Rotational crop restrictions for Ally are found on page 64 of the 1996 North Dakota Weed Control Guide in the table, "Rotation Restrictions for Crops Grown in North Dakota." The minimum recropping interval for durum wheat is 10 months. A recropping interval of 22 months and 22 inches of cumulative precipitation should occur before planting proso millet or safflower on fields west of Hwy 1. A recropping interval of 34 months and 34 inches of cumulative precipitation should occur east of Hwy 1 for these crops. These crop rotation intervals must be followed. In addition, a field bioassay should be conducted before planting susceptable crops.
