Meetings -------- 1996 North Dakota Water Quality Symposium The fifth North Dakota Water Quality Symposium will be March 20- 21 at the Doublewood Inn in Bismarck. Preregistration for the Symposium is $55 until March 14. Registration at the door is $75. The registration includes abstracts, proceedings, two noon lunches, continental breakfast, social hour, and breaks. Advanced Crop Advisor Workshop The fourth annual Advanced Workshop for Crop Advisers will be held on February 21-22 at North Dakota State University in Fargo. The workshop is being organized by the Minnesota and NDSU Extension Service. The targeted audience includes crop consultants; ag chemical commercial applicators, dealers, and industry representatives; and extension and experiment station field staff. Discussions will focus on the consequences of herbicide use and land management practices on weed populations during the current and following crop years. Discussions will focus on identification, monitoring methods and control of cereal aphids and orange wheat blossom midge. Lloyd Harris, Philip Boeve 3. Advances in Soil Fertility. This session will provide in- depth discussions on topics including: sulfur requirements for cereal grains and canola, the effects of volunteer and cover crop small grains growth on soil nitrates, the implications of soil grid size, grid orientation and effects of sampling techniques on soil test results. Loraine Baily, John Morghan, Nyle Wollenhaupt 4. Precision Farming Technology. This session will provide discussions on the role of yield monitors in land management, results of grid sampling on small grain and sugarbeet yields and hands-on experiences with commercial grid sampling in 1995. Larry Smith, Mike Kasowski, Gary Wagner 5. Implications of Conservation Tillage. This session will include in-depth discussions on the consequences of reduced tillage systems on crop establishment, weed control, disease management and fertility.
