This is an advanced workshop for individuals who desire the latest information on soil fertility, crop management and information technology. This program is designed for crop consultants, agronomists, ag dealers, extension agents and industry representatives.
The number of workshop participants will be limited to 150 persons. Preregistration (including fee payment) is required as workshop enrollment will be filled on a first-come first-serve basis.
Workshop fee is $125 per person if received with completed preregistration form by FEBRUARY 6. After this date, the workshop fee is $150. The fee covers the cost of refreshment breaks, noon meals and reference materials. A full refund of the preregistration fee will be provided if requested prior to the workshop.
A letter will be sent to persons who have preregistered (completed form and paid fee) to confirm their enrollment in the workshop.
Reservations for lodging may be made directly with motels in the Fargo/Moorhead area. A limited block of rooms have been reserved until February 8 at a reduced rate at the Kelly Inn, 3800 Main Ave., Fargo. Phone: 701-282-2143. All workshop participants should make their own lodging arrangements.
NDSU campus parking passes will be available for workshop participants. Car pooling is strongly encouraged when travelling to campus to reduce competition for limited parking spaces.

This session will discuss handling investigations, problem solving and legalities involved with handling these types of inquiries.

Soil Fertility Issues
Insufficient copper levels in wheat have caused major yield losses on the Canadian prairie. Research on diagnosing and preventing copper deliciency will be presented. Sulfur research from Canada conducted during 1996 and 1997 on canola and small grains will be presented including lime of application, placement and source of sulfur materials.

Opportunities of enhancing income with alternative crops will be explored. Discussion will include analyzing crop contracts. This session will include an alternative crops identification exercise.

The next Certified Crop Adviser exams are bing offered February 6, 1998. The exams will be in Carrington, with the national exam given in the morning and the state exam in the afternoon.
The deadline for examination registrations to be in the American Society of Agronomy Office, Madison, Wisconsin, was December 12. Registrations received after that date, regardless of the postmark, were returned. Individuals who signed up for the August 1997 exams but did not take them will NOT automatically be rescheduled for the February 1998 exams.
Exam fees are as follows:
National exam $100
N.D. exam $ 75National retake $50
N.D. retake $37
If you cancel your registration after the registration deadline (December 12, 1997) or are not present on exam day, the exam fees become non-refundable. You must pay a $25.00 re-application fee to re-register for the August 1998 or February 1999 exams. After this time, the full registration fee will be required. This also applies to retest applications.

The North Dakota Performance Objectives list several good resources to help prepare for the examination, including the CCA Prep Book, by the AgriBusiness Group; CCA Self-Study Manual, by Agri-Growth Research; CCA Training Manuals, by Ag. Career Consulting; and The North Dakota Fertilizer Handbook, Extension Bulletin EB-65.

Please plan to attend the recertification meetings scheduled on these two pages. Also we strongly encourage you to send your new employees to one of the initial certification meetings scheduled below. We in the NDSU Pesticide Programs Office have noticed that it is much easier to pass the initial examinations on the first try if the person attends the training meetings. If you need to retest you are welcome to attend the initial certification meetings if you wish.
