How Do I Leave a Mailing List?

man leavingFor whatever reason, sometimes we have to cancel our subscription to a mailing list—it may generate more messages than you can keep up with or the discussion may have lost its relevance. To leave a mailing list, you need to cancel your subscription. As with subscribing, exact commands will vary for different lists, but the general process is the same.

For example, to cancel your subscription to the Scout Report,

  1. Address an email message to: listserv@lists.internic.net

  2. Leave the subject line blank

  3. In the body of your message, type: signoff scout-report

    * If signoff doesn't work, try unsubscribe or unsub

Following these steps will remove your name and email address from the Scout Report's mailing list. Always refer to the mailing list's confirmation message for the specific commands needed to cancel your subscription.
