Designing for the Web
Introduction | Creating a successful site: site design, web page design, home page design, navigation, type, color | Web graphics and New Technology | HTML | Final tips | Web review software | Supplemental Links

How to create a successful web site

  • Determine your audience.
    • identify the users
    • identify the computer equipment they use
    • research what the customers want (not what you think they want)
    • find out how they want their information
    • find out what they use the information for
    • never assume you know who your audience is and what they want

  • Design sites appropriate for the markets you serve.
    • design for the lowest common denominator in equipment

  • Create a virtual community for users.
    • develop subareas within your site for different groups

  • Deliver outstanding customer service.

  • Integrate web operations with other marketing activities.
    • print your URL on everything your company produces
