What are the Issues?

Life on the Web is similar to life in many large communities—there are safe and unsafe neighborhoods; honest and dishonest people; and value systems that may not match our own. Many of us share similar concerns about participating in the Internet community. We also see opportunities for ourselves and our communities. Some frequently asked questions include:

  • Is it safe to let my children use the Web?

  • I'd like to shop over the Web. Will someone steal my credit card number?

  • I run a small business. Should I have a Web site?

  • Can Web sites really put files on my computer?

  • How can I legally use the information I find on the Web?

Many web-related questions don't have cut and dried answers. Learning more about these issues can help you make good, informed decisions for yourself. In many cases you can look to the Web for information to these issues.

The information provided in this section will help you become informed about Web issues. However, just like in real life, you make the final decisions about how you live in the virtual world of the Web.
