The file you receive will have the following format:

Each line contains the observations for one day.

The fields (variables) are separated by commas. This file format is often known as "comma-delimited". Most database and spreadsheet programs should be able to import a comma-delimited file.

The fields are:

  1. Year
  2. Month number
  3. Day of the month
  4. Maximum daily air temperature (F) measured 5 ft. above the soil surface
  5. Estimated flag
  6. Time of day of maximum air temperature
  7. Minimum daily air temperature (F) measured 5 ft. above the soil surface
  8. Estimated flag
  9. Time of day of minimum air temperature
  10. Average daily temperature at a 4 inch depth in bare soil
  11. Estimated flag
  12. Average daily temperature at a 4 inch depth in turf covered soil
  13. Estimated flag
  14. Average daily wind speed (miles per hour) measured 10 ft. above the soil surface
  15. Estimated flag
  16. Maximum instantaneous wind speed (miles per hour) during the day measured 10 ft. above the soil surface

  18. Time of day of maximum wind speed
  19. Average daily direction from which the wind is blowing (degrees clockwise from north)
